The community will come together for the Moreton Bay Says No to Violence walk and speaking event at Redcliffe during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in May.
The event will be held on May 30 from 8.30am, with participants walking along Redcliffe Pde, continuing along the waterfront and down to Settlement Cove Amphitheatre.
A speaking event will start once everyone is seated and will go for about 40 minutes.
Now in its 17th year, the Moreton Bay Says No To Violence (MBSN2V) walk is a community awareness event that brings people together to stand up, speak out, and walk together against family and domestic violence.
Encircle CEO Barb Power OAM says the annual event continues to gain increased interest, support and attendance from community groups, schools, residents and local businesses.
“It is a way to bring the community together and say no to violence, in all its forms, so we create a safer Moreton Bay community,” Barb explains.
“Here at Encircle we strive every single day to make Moreton Bay a community where safety is taken for granted, and where no one has to worry about being safe.
“We invite everyone to play your part in contributing to a violence-free neighbourhood; be it in schools, homes, workplaces, or on our streets. If not now, when?”
The event was originally a White Ribbon event and was celebrated as part of the 16 Days of Activism for many years.
In 2024, it moved to the last Friday in May as part of Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month.
Guest speakers at this year’s event include Lou Felton Smith from Miracle Mums Movement Inc, Dave Kramer from the Small Steps for Hannah HALT Program and Danni Vee, a survivor and mindset/leadership coach.
There will also be representatives from the State Government, schools and Queensland Police Service.
