Families set to have a ball on new sporting fields

Families across the region will soon be able to kick a ball around on the new sporting grounds at North Lakes State College, with upgrade work nearing completion.
The school was awarded a $1 million grant under the State Government’s Active Community Infrastructure (Community Use of Schools) program to create facilities that can be shared by community sports clubs.
Upgrades include new turf across the oval, LED lighting in the towers, sandstone terraces for seating and a new amenities block.
The internal fit out for the amenities block is still underway, and will feature change rooms, toilets, storage space and a canteen.
State Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting said this project would give “students an even better opportunity to pursue their sporting dreams”.
“The beauty about this upgrade is that all of the local community will benefit as they can be used by many people from a range of local sporting clubs,” Mr Whiting said.
“Effectively, these fields form part of the broader Kinsellas Road sporting precinct which is used by up to 1800 football players over a football season.
“The whole project was done as a partnership with the North Lakes Sports club, North Lakes State College, North Lakes Mustangs, The Lakes FC and the Department of Sport.
“It is going to create sporting facilities that will confirm North Lakes as a centre of community sporting activity across the region.”
