Vale Hilton Misso
Hilton Misso, one of the most influential business and community figures in Redcliffe and Moreton Bay, has died aged 80.
He founded Sesame Lane Care and Kindergarten, was a long-serving director of Trilby Misso Lawyers and ran the Think 2 Be Group which released the following statement:
The Think 2 Be Group has announced with profound sadness the passing of its founder and guiding spirit, Hilton Alfred Reimers Misso, who died on 9 June 2026, aged 80.
Born in Sri Lanka in 1945, Hilton arrived in Australia in 1956 as a ten-year-old after his family was forced to leave their home amid political unrest with little more than they could carry.
Having been told he may not survive birth and facing significant health challenges throughout his early years, Hilton developed a resilience and determination that would define his life.
Following in his father's footsteps, Hilton studied law at the University of Queensland and was admitted as a solicitor in 1971. He went on to help build Trilby Misso Lawyers into one of Australia's most recognised personal injury law firms.
The firm pioneered the "no win, no fee" model in Australia, transforming access to justice for thousands of Australians before its sale to Slater & Gordon in 2010. In recognition of his contribution to the legal profession, Hilton was later admitted as an Honorary Member of the Queensland Law Society.
While Hilton's career began in law, he held a deep and enduring belief in the importance of the formative years of a child's life. In 1988, Hilton and his wife, Lynda, founded Sesame Lane Care and Kindergarten. Over the decades that followed, the organisation provided early learning and care to tens of thousands of children and families across the Moreton Bay region.
Hilton's passion for personal growth led to the establishment of the Think 2 Be Foundation in 2021.
The Foundation was created to support causes aligned with his lifelong philosophy of "teaching people to fish" empowering individuals with confidence and opportunities to create better futures for themselves.
The Foundation's guiding message, "Think 2 Be Anything You Want To Be", reflected Hilton's unwavering belief that regardless of circumstance, adversity or background, every person has the capacity to achieve their potential.
Hilton's legacy extends far beyond the organisations he built.
Following his work in law, education, property, and philanthropy, in 2025 shared his life lessons in his book, How to Manifest Success: 50 Lessons on Leadership, Love and Life.
Hilton is survived by his wife, Lynda, their three children, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be shared in due course. The family kindly requests privacy during this difficult time.
