Volunteer grants now open

Community organisations across the Petrie electorate can now apply for funding through the 2025–26 Volunteer Grants Program, with Expressions of Interest officially open.

Federal Member for Petrie Emma Comer said the program offers grants between $1000 and $5000 to eligible not-for-profit organisations, helping reduce barriers to volunteering and strengthen local groups.

“The program is designed to make volunteering easier and more accessible,” Ms Comer said.

“By covering practical costs like equipment, training and resources, these grants allow organisations to focus on what they do best - supporting our community.”

Eligible organisations must be not-for-profit and have at least 40 per cent volunteers. Funding can be used for equipment purchases, volunteer training, resources and other initiatives that make it easier for people to participate.

“The goal is to ensure volunteers have the tools and support they need to continue their valuable work.”

Expressions of Interest are now open through Ms Comer’s office and close on April 1, 2026.

Submissions will be considered in partnership with a local Community Committee to help ensure funding is distributed fairly and reflects the diversity of the Petrie community.

Ms Comer said volunteers play a vital role across Moreton Bay.

“Volunteers are the backbone of communities like ours,” she said. “They run sporting clubs, support seniors, deliver food relief, protect the environment and organise community events.

“They give their time and skills to help others, often without recognition. This program is about giving something back to the people who give so much to us.
