Water and sewerage bills to ease for Moreton Bay households

Annual water supply and sewerage services bills will fall in 2022-23 for most Moreton Bay Region households.

Customers will save $19 a year following Unitywater’s decision to reduce fixed access charges.

The reductions are partially offset by a $10 rise in the State Government bulk water component.

Savings in fixed access charges will be complemented by stable usage charges that have been locked in for the eighth year in a row.

An average, Moreton Bay Region households (using about 375 litres of water per day) will drop by $9 in 2022-23.

Acting Chief Executive Pauline Thomson says Unitywater is aware of the rising cost of living pressures on households.

“Families in Moreton Bay have had to cope with a lot in the past couple of years, from COVID-19 to rises in the cost of living to extreme weather and floods,” Ms Thomson says.

With these latest reductions, Unitywater’s component of Moreton Bay water and sewerage bills has fallen a total of 5.7 per cent since 2014. The utility’s volume-based usage charges remain at 2014-15 prices.

Ms Thomson says Unitywater will do its best to manage costs for customers while investing in sustainable water and sewerage infrastructure to serve a growing population in the local region.

During the next five years, Unitywater will invest more than $1 billion in new projects and improvements across the Moreton Bay Region, Sunshine Coast and Noosa.

The 2022-23 prices come into effect on 1 July 2022 and full details can be found at www.unitywater.com/pricing
