About Newport
The coastal suburb of Newport was gazetted in 2008 after previously being part of the Kippa-Ring and Scarborough suburbs. Known for its predominately water-side residential housing with artificial canal waterways Newport is a popular suburb with families and retirees chasing a waterside lifestyle.
Newport is currently under its final stages of development with final stages of development to include a retail precinct, large non-tidal lake and hundreds of house lots of various sizes.
Facilities in Newport include a marina adjacent to Albatross Canal, the Mariner Plaza Shopping Centre on Griffith Road and parks and playgrounds scattered throughout the suburb.

History of Newport
The suburb was named after the Newport Waterways canal estate and was excised from Scarborough and Kippa-Ring in 2008. In the late 1970s the first canals were created around Endeavour Esplanade, Australia Court and Courageous Court, immediately west of Scarborough.
