History of Ningi
Both the creek and the suburb were named after the Ningi Ningi Aboriginal group who were traditionally associated with Toorbul Point on the north side of the mouth of the creek.
It is thought the meaning of the suburb name from the Aboriginal Undanbi clan, the Ningi Ningi, meant 'oysters’.
