For Simmone Gabriel, Burpengary is no longer the understated outer suburb many people once knew.
Over the past decade, the owner of Volume Hair and founder of Volume Beauty Bar has watched the area transform into one of Moreton Bay’s fastest-growing lifestyle destinations, attracting professionals, business owners and young families looking for more space without sacrificing lifestyle.
“The city centre used to have a Domino’s, Woolworths and one coffee shop, and that was pretty much it,” Simmone laughed.
“Now there’s so much growth, so many new businesses and so many people moving into the area.”
Having operated Volume Beauty Bar in Burpengary for the past five years, Simmone said the team has had a front-row seat to the changing demographics of the area, with nearby developments such as North Harbour bringing more professionals, business owners and families into the region.
“As hairdressers and beauty professionals, we talk to locals all day, so we really get a feel for what’s happening in the community,” she said.
“A lot of people are moving further out because they want bigger homes, acreage or a more family-friendly lifestyle, but they still expect the same level of food, services and experiences they’d find in inner-city suburbs. That’s something we’re really starting to see more of in Burpengary now.”
Alongside the growth of the area, Simmone has also built a collective space for female-owned businesses through Volume Beauty Bar, bringing several local operators together under one roof.
The space is home to Volume Hair, a hair and eyelash salon owned by Simmone and her partner Mel, alongside cosmetic nurse Nurse Jessmina, Tempted Tattoo and La Bonne Dame Cosmetic Tattoo and Beauty Specialist.
“We intentionally created a space where women can build and grow their businesses together while supporting one another,” Simmone said.
“All of us live locally and genuinely love being part of the Burpengary community.”
Outside of work, Simmone enjoys spending time locally with her young family, supporting businesses such as Basil & Vine for brunch, Little Lamb for dinner and drinks, and Yang Guo Fu Hotpot, which she describes as one of Burpengary’s hidden gems. Weekends are often spent visiting Burpengary Meadows Community Market and stopping by Sunny’s Sourdough Bakery for fresh bread.
For Simmone, Burpengary’s growth is creating a stronger sense of community, with more local businesses, young families and professionals choosing to build their lives in the area.
“It’s exciting to see where Burpengary is heading.”
