Band promises rock’n good vibes

If you're heading along to this year’s Park Vibes event on March 20, you can expect a fun and high-energy performance when Gold Coast-based band Hinterland hit the stage.

The trio of Jesse Emmanuel, and Rachel and Rob Bostock will be joined by sister Sara Bostock on bass and drummer Troy Wright for the Park Vibes show on the Strathpine Centre Main Stage at Pine Rivers Park.

Emmanuel, niece of legendary Australian guitarist Tommy, says their style is an eclectic blend of country pop, rock, and Celtic music.

“The audience can expect a lot of guitar and violin solos, shredding and three-part harmonies from five musicians at the top of their game,” she says.

“We’re going to give it all we have. There’s no backing tracks, we’re completely live and rock’n’roll with good vibes.”

She says the outdoor setting suited their style of performance perfectly.

“I also love playing for a large age range … families and people who haven’t had live entertainment for a long time,” she says.

Band a decade in the making

Emmanuel says they had crossed paths and worked together for more than 10 years in other bands, but only started writing together as Hinterland since late last year.

They’ve all worked on original music in the past with other bands, but had been on a break from that and performing as fulltime musicians with cover band for a couple of years before deciding to give it a crack together.

“I started writing again for other people and got the song-writing bug again,” she says.

They have played at the Tamworth Country Music Festival with other bands and had planned to perform there last year, when COVID-19 forced the iconic event’s cancellation.

It would have been perfect timing with the release of their EP, Loud. So, instead of taking their music on the road, they released three singles in six months and are ready for a big 2021 and their performance at Park Vibes on March 20.

Event not to miss

Park Vibes is set to be a laidback afternoon of music, food and fun for the whole family.

There will be free rides, a stellar line-up of bands, a delectable range of international cuisines, plus a spectacular fireworks finale.

The event will be run in accordance with a Queensland Health-approved COVID Safe plan. Capacity will be capped and contact tracing information recorded for each patron.

Patrons can skip the contact tracing queue and register for free event tickets online, so they can simply scan their ticket and walk straight in.

From 3pm, children can enjoy an afternoon of free rides in the dedicated kids’ zone, with rides and activities to suit little and big kids alike.

When the sun starts to set, patrons can spread their picnic blankets and settle down in front of the main stage for an evening of live music. Food will be available from three theme flavour food zones.

As well as Hinterland, the line-up of bands and soloists includes Baker Boys Band, an eight-piece all-rounder band, which will have the crowd up and dancing.

Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) Chairman, Mr Shane Newcombe is excited to bring back this free entry event for the local community, after it narrowly escaped the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“Park Vibes 2020 was held only a matter of weeks before the COVID-19 Pandemic shut down the country, even in these uncertain times it was a great day out for everyone who came along,” Mr Newcombe says.

“This is an event for the whole family and this year’s program will draw people from across the Moreton Bay Region and beyond, bringing them together to enjoy a free afternoon of quality entertainment."

Mayor Peter Flannery says Park Vibes continues to get bigger and better every year.

“We’re shaking off the 2020-blues with an awesome line-up of events to make sure 2021 starts with a bang,” Mayor Flannery says.

“These kinds of events are vital to kickstarting economic activity for local businesses, especially our tourism, arts and hospitality sectors who were some of the hardest hit during the pandemic. I can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Pine Rivers Park for an afternoon of amazing live music, mouth-watering food and a whole lot of fun."

Onsite parking is available for $5, with money raised donated to local community groups.
