“Best day of our lives”

Posted: 12pm 06 Nov 2020

A Redcliffe couple went out for breakfast this morning and returned home $2 million richer after checking their Gold Lotto ticket.

The couple had one of the 10 division one winning entries nationally in Saturday’s Gold Lotto $20 Million Superdraw. Each entry won $2 million.

The ticket was unregistered, so officials from The Lott had no way of contacting the winners and had to wait for them to come forward to claim their prize.

Blown away

That happened today when the couple ducked into Redcliffe Discount Drug Store on Redcliffe Pde and discovered they are now multi-millionaires.

“We are blown away,” the winning woman says. “You buy tickets hoping to win, but you never actually think it’s going to happen.

“We are just so overwhelmed. I just can’t believe this. This is the best day of our lives!”

Didn’t believe it

“When Jodie at the outlet told us we’d won $2 million, we didn’t believe it. We thought she was playing a joke on us.

“But she just kept saying it was real! Even though we’re talking to you about the win right now, it still doesn’t feel real.”

When asked how they planned to enjoy their prize, the winning couple said they’d be spending the day making plans.

I’m retiring

“I am heading straight to work now, and I am quitting,” the man says. “I can’t wait! I’m retiring!”

The woman admits: “I want to take some time to plan what else we will do with the prize,”

“I don’t want to make any rash decisions. I’d like to invest some, and we will help out our family.

“We’d like to do some travelling too. We want to go to Egypt when we can travel overseas again, but it would be nice to do some trips around Australia in the meantime.”

Hoping for winner

Redcliffe Discount Drug Store manager Jodie Schuler said she was thrilled to have delivered the winning news to her customers.

“We are stoked,” she says. “I’ve had a sleepless week waiting for the winner to come forward. Every time I checked a ticket, I was hoping it was the winner.

“I am so happy for them. I can’t even put into words how excited I am for them. I have been waiting for years to be able to share in the winning moment, and now I have!”

Last financial year, Saturday Gold Lotto created 127 millionaires across Australia.

The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4099 on Saturday October 31, 2020 were 19, 4, 26, 27, 34 and 13, while the supplementary numbers were 6 and 15.

Across Australia, there were 10 division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4099 – four from New South Wales, three from Queensland, two from Victoria, and one from Western Australia.
