The Dolphins have announced a boost to their centre stocks with the signing of Grand Final winner and State of Origin-experienced back Brenko Lee.

Lee will join the Dolphins on a two-year deal that will see him pair up with cousin and fellow Dolphins’ signing, Edrick Lee.

The pair were both born in Brisbane having previously played together with the Canberra Raiders.

They also made their State of Origin debuts for Queensland together, being part of the Maroons’ stunning series-deciding win over New South Wales under Wayne Bennett in 2020.

Brenko, who is currently with the Broncos, has played 70 NRL games in a career that has also included stints with the Raiders, Bulldogs and Titans.

And there is also one other key experience the 26-year-old will bring to the Dolphins – winning the NRL Grand Final with the Storm.

Brenko started in the centres in the Storm’s 26-20 win over Penrith in the 2020 NRL decider.

Dolphins’ chief executive officer Terry Reader says Lee will provide a valuable backline asset for the club to take into their entry to the NRL.

“We are very pleased to sign Brenko for our NRL debut,” Reader says.

“He performed well at Origin level under our coach Wayne Bennett and has also played at the Storm alongside Felise Kaufusi and the Bromwich brothers, who will form the core of our leadership group.

“Let’s not forget he has also won an NRL Grand Final.

“And importantly, Brenko is from Brisbane so understands the history and success the Dolphins have had in their 75-year history.”

Lee represented Queensland under-20s in 2013 and 2014, was selected for the Junior Kangaroos in 2015, and played a senior Test for Tonga in 2017.

He will move from the Broncos to the Dolphins when the pre-season commences in November.
