UPDATE - 8:30am

The Moreton Bay Region and Brisbane City Council will remain in lockdown after three new community-acquired cases of COVID-19 were detected in the past 24 hours.

A further two cases were found in hotel quarantine.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the lockdown will be extended by 24 hours to 6pm tomorrow to allow contact tracers more time to identify possible exposure sites, with an update scheduled for early in the morning.

Ms Palaszczuk says two of the cases - a mother and daughter from Carindale - have travelled extensively through the community.

Noosa, the Sunshine and Gold coasts, Logan, Ipswich, the Scenic Rim, Somerset, Redlands, Lockyear Valley and Townsville will have their lockdown lifted, but will have other restrictions in place - such as wearing masks - for two weeks.

Testing crucial

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young says 26,993 people were tested in the past 24 hours, including the mother and daughter, who had not had any known contact with a COVID-19 case - which Dr Young says shows the importance of people getting tested.

"That information came through at 1.35 this morning and the contact tracers have started," she says.

"We have extended (lockdown) because of this totally unknown case (and) I would hope that it doesn't have to be extended further." 

Dr Young says extending lockdown in the Moreton Bay Region and Brisbane will allow contact tracing to more thoroughly identify where the mother and daughter have been, and also the movements of a baggage handler who is the partner of the woman who worked at the Qatar Airlines counter and tested positive.

"It looks like the gentleman who's now a new case probably acquired it from international crew.

"He's now recovered, but we picked him up on serology testing."

Ms Palaszczuk says 17,436 vaccinations were administered yesterday.

If you have been to any of the following venues at the times specified, contact Queensland Health, get tested and isolate immediately. Monitor the Queensland Health website for the growing number of possible exposure sites. We will update this list as more come to hand.

Close contacts

If you have been to one of these locations in Queensland at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. immediately travel by private transport directly to your home or accommodation and quarantine
2. get tested at your earliest opportunity
3. Visit Queensland Health contact tracing list and follow further instructions

Casual contacts

If you have been to any of the below locations at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. immediately travel by private transport directly to your home or accommodation and quarantine
2. get tested at your earliest opportunity
3. continue to quarantine until you receive a negative result
4. Visit Queensland Health contact tracing list and follow further instructions

If you are no longer in Queensland please check with the relevant state health department for health advice and requirements.

Low risk contacts

If you have been to any of the below locations at the relevant times you must do the following:

1. get tested but you do not need to isolate unless you have symptoms
2. if you are experiencing symptoms, quarantine at home until you receive a negative result
3. continue to monitor for symptoms, if you become symptomatic get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.
