The RSPCA’s annual Cupcake Day fundraiser is coming to Dakabin on Saturday August 26 from 10am to 2pm.

Secondhand goods stalls, cupcakes, barbecue and doggy baked goods will be on sale to raise money to fight animal cruelty.

The event will be held at the Dakabin shelter at Goodwin Rd.

Cupcake Day fundraisers can also be held at home, work or school giving the public an opportunity to bake for a worthy cause.

Cupcake Days can be held any day in August to help thousands of animals in RSPCA’s care.

RSPCA Qld Spokesperson Emma Lagoon says RSPCA Cupcake Day is held across Australia throughout August.

“It's a really important fundraiser that animal lovers in the community can support so we can continue to care for the rising number of animals being surrendered to us,” Emma says.

Where the funds go

Emma says the RSPCA relies heavily on community funds.

“As we are 95 per cent funded by the community, all funds raised can positively impact the lives of animals in our care by providing bedding, food, veterinary care and more while they wait for their new homes,” she says.

The funds for Cupcake Days go towards keeping the doors of RSCPA shelters and veterinary hospitals open, investigating cruelty, emergency veterinary care for injured animals and prosecuting people who have been cruel to animals.

The funds also go into community education programs for the next generation.

Raising $57 can provide a week of vital antibiotics, $150 can help desex an abandoned puppy and $350 helps keep the inspector and rescue teams on the road to assist animals in need.

“If you'd like to get involved, you can host your own fundraiser anytime in August with friends, family, your school, or workplace by signing up at rspcacupcakeday.com.au,” Emma says.
