Counting down to major chaplaincy fundraiser

Time is running out to book a place at one of Caboolture’s biggest fundraisers - the annual Christmas Chaplaincy Dinner.

More than half the tickets have been snapped up for the event at Tullawong State School, Smiths Rd, on Friday November 5, 6pm for 6.30pm.

The chaplaincy fundraiser, held with the Scripture Union, has been going more than 20 years and raises, on average, $75,000 per annum.

Two decades

All funds go to the chaplaincy program which runs in 14 schools in Caboolture, Morayfield and Elimbah.

Schools also receive a government subsidy but Robyn Lachmund, Chaplaincy Chair and director of Richardson & Wrench Caboolture, said it was not enough.

“The reality is this funding only covers a little over a day per week of their salary,” Mrs Lachmund said.

“In order to make a larger, long-term impact, and to have the opportunity to support more students, chaplains are needed in our schools more regularly.

Reaching out

“We are reaching out to our local community to help us raise additional funding in order to make this need a reality.”

Those attending the fundraiser will get a three-course dinner, entertainment, keynote speeches, raffles and auctions.

They will be helping school chaplains provide social, emotional and spiritual support to students and their families.

Caring presence

Chaplains work to help students find a better way to deal with life issues in a relaxed and comfortable environment.

They provide a listening ear and a caring presence in the school and are often involved in school activities and events which allow students to connect with the chaplains.

Working with Mrs Lachmund is the Scripture Union’s Field Development Manager for Caboolture Julie Hose and Prue Aranovitch, a long-time supporter and owner of Sparky Direct.
