RSPCA Queensland has teamed up with Moreton Bay City Council to help make pet desexing more affordable and ease cost-of-living pressures associated with pet ownership.
Last year, more than 700 Moreton Bay pet owners registered to receive discounted desexing.
Thirteen vets in the Moreton Bay area are offering 20 per cent off cat and dog desexing until August 31 as part of Operation Wanted.
RSPCA Queensland spokeswoman Emma Lagoon says: “This year we’ve seen an 11 percent increase in animals being surrendered to the RSPCA. It‘s been largely due to rising pet costs and animals simply being unwanted.
“Affordable desexing can help ease those pressures and prevent unwanted animals ending up in pounds and shelters.”
There are currently 20 cats and kittens available for adoption at Dakabin RSPCA with dozens of stray and unwanted litters under veterinary care, or foster care awaiting desex.
Since 2014, it’s estimated more than 200,000 dogs and cats in Queensland have been desexed as part of the RSPCA initiative.
Desexing benefits
• Reduces the desire to roam
• Allows your pet to be happier and healthier
• Reduces the risk of some cancers
• Removes the risk of unwanted litters
• Cheaper council registration fees
Emma says: “RSPCA Queensland acknowledges support from Council and participating vets to reduce the number of unwanted animals in the community and to help save lives”.
