Suncorp Stadium will host an Australian sporting first when the Dolphins and Broncos play in separate NRL games at the same ground on the one day.
The Dolphins have received permission to play their June 28 game against the Rabbitohs at the newly scheduled time of 7.50pm, following the Broncos V Warriors NRL at 3pm.
The Dolphins V Rabbitohs game was relocated to Sydney in round one due to approaching Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Fans will need tickets for both games if they wish to attend the two events, with Suncorp Stadium to be emptied and prepared at the conclusion of the Broncos V Warriors game.
A new crowd will then enter the stadium for the Dolphins V Rabbitohs match, with the kick-off put back 20 minutes to allow for fan movement out of and back into the stadium.
Stadium colours, sponsor assets and dressing room signage will all be changed in that time, and Dolphins’ members who have designated tickets to the match can then assume their usual seating positions.
Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader says the willingness to bring all parties together to allow the dual events to happen will make it a memorable day for footy fans.
“We want to thank the NRL, Suncorp Stadium, host broadcaster Fox League and the Rabbitohs and Broncos for having the vision to make this unique set of circumstances into a history-making reality,” Reader says.
“We don’t believe a major stadium in Australia has ever been turned around in the one day for two events of this size before.
“It is going to turn the Caxton Street precinct into a carnival for the entire day where fans can enjoy either event, or go the whole way and purchase tickets to both.”
Suncorp Stadium General Manager Alan Graham says the stadium is up for the task of servicing two separate events in one day.
“Here, at Suncorp Stadium, we are always ready to take on big and unique challenges,” Graham says.
“Magic Round, floods and world title fights are just a few examples. We’ve got the team and the appetite to take on the next big one by turning the venue around for these back-to-back blockbusters.
“I am so grateful to our staff and all stakeholders and suppliers who have all adopted a ‘can do’ approach to make this event a great experience for so many NRL fans.”
All season members (Glass House Club, 11 and 9 Game members) will have access to this game under their regular season membership and will maintain their same seat.
Partial season members (3 and 5 Game members) will now have the option to redeem tickets to Round 17 as part of their membership.
Members who still hold a 1 Game Season Opener membership will now have access to this game as per their original membership. 1 Game members will maintain the same seat they purchased for Round 1.
Members can access their updated digital ticket and redeem tickets via their MyDolphins Account.
Ticket buyers who maintained their ticket will have access to this game under their original purchase conditions. General public tickets to Round 17 will go on sale via Ticketek in the coming week.
