The $80 million upgrade of Youngs Crossing Rd, across North Pine River, has taken another significant step forward.
Moreton Bay City Councillors have unanimously backed a contract with the recommended tenderer for a new four-lane bridge and road at Joyner. Work is expected to start mid-2025.
“This decision will be welcomed by many thousands of residents and businesses who rely on this section of the City’s road network every week,” Mayor Peter Flannery said.
“This upgrade to Youngs Crossing will provide flood immunity in heavy rain events and water releases from North Pine Dam and Sideling Creek, preventing the closure of Youngs Crossing Rd and reducing impacts on the wider transport network.
“It’s an important milestone signalling the City will a soon have a permanent, reliable solution in place for one of our most vulnerable and frustrating choke points."
The Youngs Crossing upgrade is one of the biggest road infrastructure projects to be delivered by Council and crucial to transport services in the Moreton Bay region.
The project spans more than one kilometre from Protheroe Rd to Dayboro Rd, including construction of a bridge approximately 200 metres long.
Mayor Flannery said Council’s CEO would finalise contract negotiations and thanked the Federal and State Governments for recognising the benefits of the project.
“This is what can be achieved when all levels of Government work together,” the Mayor said.
“This project has been debated for decades, we are now ensuring that the project gets delivered, the time for talk is over.
“Considering the rapid growth of our population, the upgrade to Youngs Crossing is essential infrastructure that will ensure connectivity across our City.”
Cr Jim Moloney (Div 8) urged residents and road users to register for project updates to stay ahead of construction developments and potential impacts on their commute.
