Craft beer, burgers, live music – it’s a winning combo and it’s coming to Deception Bay. The bayside’s newest venue, Dude and Dukes Beer Hall, opens this week.

The venue at 378-380 Deception Bay Rd is the brainchild of Alyce Lafauci and her husband and will open its doors to the public at 11am on Friday, October 23.

It’s at the old Street Easy site, which has been completely transformed to offer patrons a relaxed place to enjoy a drink and bite to eat, while listening to live music, a DJ or watching the footy.

The couple had set up Pour My Beer in Australia and moved to Griffin from Townville, so they could expand the business.

Alyce’s brother has lived in Deception Bay for the past 10 years, so she knows the area well.

“We saw an opportunity, when Street Easy closed its doors to open our own business,” she said.

They’re juggling this new venture while raising their two young children, aged three and one.

Why Deception Bay?

“You should be able to have a drink and eat good food here. There’s nowhere to go and get dressed up and meet friends and enjoy a beverage or two,” Alyce says.

The venue is supporting local independent brewers, such as Brendale Brewing Company, as well as those from interstate.

Patrons can pour as little or as much as they like in a glass, enabling them to taste a beer before committing to a schooner.

They are issued a card, which they can pop some money on and use to tap and go at the taps, when they want a drink.

There’s eight beers on tap, one cocktail (espresso martini) and one wine (squealing pig sauvignon blanc). There’s also a fully-stocked bar.

The taps will be cleaned in line with COVID-19 regulations and a staff member will be there to help patrons and ensure there is responsible service of alcohol.

“We’re bringing the bar tender from behind the bar so they can interact with customers and tell them the stories of the beers,” Alyce says.

As for Alyce’s favourite beer – it’s the Raspberry Berliner Weisse.

What to expect this week?

On Friday night, there will be a DJ set; on Saturday there will be live music during the day and the AFL Grand Final screened that night; on Sunday there will be live music during the day and the NRL Grand Final screened that night.

Capacity is capped at 60, due to COVID-19 restrictions, so patrons are urged to book via the venue’s website to ensure they can get a seat. Walk-ins will be permitted, but limited, and not guaranteed.

Need a job?

Alyce has employed 12 people and is still looking for more to join the team. If you’re interested, contact her via the website.

Dude and Duke Beer Hall will be open from 11am-9pm Monday to Wednesday, 11am-late Thursday to Sunday.
