North Lakes Eels have already kicked two major Auskick goals this year before the AFL season has started.

The Eels’ Auskick (ages 5-12) registration numbers are on course to be the highest since the club was formed in 2010.

And, based on Auskick and come ‘n try figures, Eels are tracking to be the biggest Auskick centre in the Moreton Bay Region this season.

Vice-president Brad Smith said Eels have around 110 youngsters set to be at the club’s Auskick launch on Saturday, when Kinderkick (ages 3-5) will also be held.

“We think it’s a sign that community football is really back after COVID,” he said.

The launch will be at Eels headquarters on the fields of St Benedict’s College, Mango Hill, from 8-9am with Brisbane Lions’ mascot Roy making a guest appearance.

Eels also ran a session for new volunteers at the weekend to help those who may not have been in a club role before.

Twelve volunteers attended with eight youngsters from their families who played the part of Auskickers.

Brad Smith said some of the club’s Under 15 Boys players had also put their hands up to “give something back” to the Eels.
