Bring the family to the free Movie in the Park Margate event on November 19 at Barry Bolton Park.

It’s part of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s bumper community events program for 2022.

The film, Minions: The Rise of Gru, will be screened at the event which is on from 6-9pm. The movie is expected to start about 7pm.

Movie in the Park Margate is presented by Moreton Bay Regional Council and supported by major sponsors Ausbuild and Moreton Daily.

Movie snacks will be available for sale before the movie and the Ausbuild barbecue will raise money for The Lions Club of Redcliffe Central.

Food trucks will also be serving food and coffee, and there will be free face painting before the movie.

Moreton Bay Regional Councillor Cr Karl Winchester (Div 6) says it will be a great outing for the family.

“Obviously another Minions movie will be a hit with the kids, but this latest instalment is set back in the 70s so there’s some musical nostalgia and plenty of LOLs along the way for parents,” Cr Winchester says.

“Speaking of nostalgia, the voice cast features names from the heyday of cinema including Julie Andrews, and Jean-Claud Van Damme and Michelle Yeoh.

“Movie in the Park is a fantastic initiative to bring the community of Margate together under the stars for a fun and free family night out.

“So, mark Saturday November 19 in your calendar and head down with your family, friends, and picnic blankets for a free night of local entertainment.”

Big program of events

Mayor Peter Flannery says this is one of dozens of events being held this financial year, in direct response to calls from locals for more festivals and activities in their suburbs and neighbourhoods.

“We’ve heard you and we’re acting to deliver more great local events close to home, so it’s close to home and easy for local families,” he says.

“In the era of Netflix, I love the idea of locals heading out and coming together for a movie. It’s the closest this generation will get to a drive-in, I think.”

Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism Founder and CEO Shane Newcombe says smaller community events at local venues are the perfect way to bring residents together in their own neighbourhoods.

“You can grab the kids, some chairs and blankets and walk to these events with your neighbours and friends,” Mr Newcombe says.
