Researchers, community members, industry, environmental managers and decision makers will come together to discuss the latest in marine research at the Moreton Bay Sea Country Showcase at Petrie next month.

The event, on November 7, is a collaboration between The University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), Rotary-ESRAG and the Moreton Bay Foundation (TMBF).

It will be held from 8.30am-12.30pm at the University of the Sunshine Coast Moreton Bay Campus at 1 Moreton Pde, Petrie.

Presentations will cover a range of topics, from global climate change and practical restoration efforts to iconic species conservation.

Speakers will highlight UniSC's work in Moreton Bay and beyond, showcasing local expertise, current projects and future priorities.

Participants will explore what research is needed to help protect and monitor Moreton Bay in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

ESRAG International Director Colin Scobie says: “With a combined 20 million annual visits across the Great Barrier Reef and Moreton Bay Marine Park - and with Moreton Bay attracting 50 per cent more visitors - there’s a growing need to understand what lies beneath our local waters.

“The Moreton Bay Sea Country Showcase helps achieve that by bringing UniSC researchers to share insights on how we can better protect this unique marine environment.”

Showcase themes

  • Global impacts and their local influences
  • Local solutions to global problems
  • Threatened species as a pillar of marine conservation

Guest speakers

A member of The Moreton Bay Foundation will share highlights of the recently developed Blueprint for a Sustainable Moreton Bay 2025–2035.

Tickets are $20. Morning tea will be provided, and attendees will have the opportunity to join a guided tour of UniSC Moreton Bay’s teaching and research facilities.
