Tastes of Moreton Bay – a six-week long celebration of local produce and cuisine – is coming back in 2021 along with the Moreton Bay Food and Wine Festival.

It has been a long time between courses, thanks to COVID-19 restrictions, but foodies won’t have to wait much longer.

The signature event, Moreton Bay Food and Wine Festival, will be held on July 30, 31 and August 1 to coincide with the start of Tastes of Moreton Bay, which runs from August 1 to September 19 across the region.

The program for both events will be released closer to the time, but the region’s own celebrity chef Alastair McLeod will be part of the action.

This year’s Moreton Bay Food and Wine Festival will be held at Apex Park, on the waterfront, at Woody Point.

Why it’s moving

The new location will enable organisers to make it a COVID-Safe event, adhering to State Government guidelines, with measures for contact tracing and plenty of space for social distancing.

MBRIT Chairman Shane Newcombe is calling on producers, cafes, restaurants and food vendors to be part of the festival and the Tastes of Moreton Bay program.

“Our region is home to an abundance of quality produce, restaurants, cafes and bars. We know when we combine that with our spectacular natural landscapes from the bay to the hinterland, you’re on a winner,” Mr Newcombe says.

How to get involved

There are plenty of opportunities for vendors and venues to be involved in the Tastes of Moreton Bay program and Moreton Bay Food and Wine Festival.

“Tastes of Moreton Bay is the chance for local tastemakers and foodies to come together. Venues and producers will be hosting culinary events and masterclasses and offering special menus, creating a food trail across the region to tantalise the tastebuds,” Mr Newcombe says.

Market stalls, cooking demonstrations, speaking events and more will give vendors and venues the opportunity to be part of the Moreton Bay Food and Wine Festival.

Businesses and producers can register their interest Tastes of Moreton Bay and Moreton Bay Food and Wine Festival online

SEQ's food bowl

Mayor Peter Flannery says the Moreton Bay Region deserves to be recognised as a food bowl for South East Queensland.

“We bat well above our average in terms of the quality of our produce and appreciation for cuisine, Moreton Bay has well and truly come of age and it’s time we made the nation pay attention to that,” Mayor Flannery says.

“I implore locals to go discover a new corner of our region, the variety of products and hospitality stylings on offer from the cafes of Samford and hidden restaurants around Mount Mee to the iconic venues around Bribie and Redcliffe - there really is no better place to be.”
