Plans for the new $20 million Moreton Motorsport Park have reached another significant stage in the approval process.
Formal consultation has begun for the 24.8 hectare racing and training facility, earmarked for land off Bloesch Rd, Beachmere.
Under the State Government’s Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID), public consultation is now open until Thursday June 11.
The Corbet Group’s plan is for two tracks hosting motocross and speedway, driver training facilities, a BMX track, pitting, temporary grandstand seating, food and beverages.
Corbet Group, based at Gympie, has also set-up an email address to take comments and provide additional detail.
Lee Wodetzki, from the Project Team, said “high level” assessments had been done to ensure Moreton Motorsport Park “achieved its ambition of creating a world-class motorsport facility without compromising on impacts to the community”.
Mr Wodetzki said this includes “extensive and detailed investigations” to ensure construction, and operation of Moreton Motorsport Park will not produce any “adverse impacts”.
“This has included noise modelling, flood impact assessments, ecological impact including bushfire on cleared and retained areas of vegetation, traffic assessments, economic needs and social benefit of the proposal.”
Annual meeting projections include 13 minor speedway events each attracting 1000 spectators and three major events with 4000 spectators; 26 minor motocross events attracting 100 spectators and three major events with 1000 spectators.
Designed for international events, the motorsport park could generate more than $32 million per year, with most benefitting local accommodation and food/beverage businesses.
“The economic impact of an international event is projected to generate over $20 million,” Mr Wodetzki said, adding 195 full-time jobs will be created in construction and 42 ongoing.
The application includes support from Federal Member for Longman Terry Young who says it “can deliver long-term economic and recreational benefits” to his electorate and beyond.
State Member for Pumicestone Ariana Doolan says the proposal is a “rare opportunity to deliver long-term social, economic and recreational benefits”.
Speedway Australia is “excited by the prospect of championship speedway events returning to Queensland’s capital city”.
The motorsport park was put forward after the loss of venues including Archerfield Speedway, Tivoli Raceway, Coolum Pines MX and North Brisbane Junior Motorcycle Club.
