Free bus safety training for kids

Caboolture Bus Lines is planning to launch Queensland’s first bus safety education facility for school children.

A town planning application has been lodged with Moreton Bay City Council for a program where “children can learn essential bus safety skills”.

The proposal has real-life simulations, with a street front stop where the bus will drop off and pick up, hands-on activities and educational sessions in a permanent bus “classroom”.

Caboolture Bus Lines, which has been operating 37 years, would deliver the program to schools in the Moreton Bay region, free of charge and tailored to age groups.

“We recognise the importance of educating our youngest passengers on how to navigate bus travel safely,” said Grant & Janette Craike, owners of Caboolture Bus Lines.

“Through this initiative, we aim to provide parents with peace of mind, knowing their children are well-prepared to make safe travel decisions."

The application submitted over the Christmas break has been supported by ARC Planning who have committed to this project free-of-charge.

“I can only hope that Council step on board this amazing initiative” ARC Planning Director Adrian Raedel said.

“We are asking Council to allow a street located bus stop that will be used for three drop offs and three pickups, for less than ten minutes each time and only on school days”

The facility aims to reach thousands of children annually, giving them the knowledge and confidence to be safe and responsible passengers.

“By investing in the education of our future generations, we’re not just teaching bus safety - we’re fostering a culture of care, respect, and responsibility,” Mrs Craike.
