Former players, coaches, officials and long-time supporters will celebrate the Redcliffe Dolphins’ 75th anniversary in style this month.

It’s fitting that the gala dinner will be held at Moreton Daily Stadium’s Des Webb stand, named after the club’s late chairman and a figure who drove many of the decisions that have made it the rugby league powerhouse it is today.

The event is on Friday, August 12 at 6pm and will be hosted by patron and renowned wordsmith Rupert McCall.

Dolphins Group Chairman, former player and senior coach, and life member Bob Jones is looking forward to seeing old friends and reliving some of the club’s greatest moments.

“I think one of the best things about the night will be celebrating all the great people that have come into your life because of your association with the Dolphins. For me, people like Ken McCrohon, John Treeby and Don McLennan are just some of the guys who have helped shape my life. The people you meet are what makes every club special,” Bob says.

He says Henry Holder, Wally Fullerton-Smith, Steve Bleakely, Tony Obst, Trevor Benson, John Boxsell, Troy Lindsay, Gary Worden and Mick Roberts are among those likely to attend.

So much to celebrate

There will be many achievements celebrated on the night including standout moments which have shaped the club.

“After the initial achievement of the formation of the club in 1947, I think our two big moves in ascending to higher levels of rugby league have been massive moments for the club. Getting the backing to move from the suburban league into the Brisbane Rugby League premiership in 1960 was a huge moment for the club – it changed us from a country club into a city club,” he explains.

“In the same manner, winning the licence for entry to the NRL was another huge thing for the Dolphins. We now move from being a State League club into a team on the national and global stage in the NRL.

|“For me the first Brisbane Rugby League premiership in 1965 will always be something to be proud of. To win that title, after just five years in the competition, was huge. It also began the legacy that the great Arthur Beetson had with our club, something we will continue to celebrate forever.”|

Bob says the gala dinner will a chance to reminisce about old friends and celebrate the amazing things that the Redcliffe Dolphins have achieved in the past 75 years.

“There will be some special notice made of some of the greatest and most important moments of the club, such as the 1947 formation and 1960 entry to the BRL, the 1965 BRL premiership, the move from the (Redcliffe) Showgrounds and the establishment of Dolphin Oval, the legacy of Des Webb, the 1994 achievement of four premierships in one year, the golden 2000s and the Dolphins Retail and Health Precinct development.
