Get out and get active

Spending time in a park or open space can support your physical and mental wellbeing. As part of Parks Week and beyond, Moreton Bay Regional Council is encouraging people to take part in activities in the region’s parks and open spaces. Activities range from yoga and pilates to group fitness, walking football and croquet.

Pilates classes

This class is designed to improve core stability and strengthen the body. Classes cost $4 and are on Tuesdays, 6-7pm at Capestone Development Park, Napier Ave, Mango Hill. Phone 0413 423 742.

Sunrise yoga 

Join Sharon, the Nomad Yogi, for yoga and meditation at Scarborough Beach. Yoga is great for flexibility, strength, balance and a sense of wellbeing. Free classes are Wednesdays, 6.15-7.15am at Scarborough Beach Park, 52 Landsborough Ave. Phone 0478 081 883.

Harmony Week 

Celebrating cultural diversity and promoting participation, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone, runs March 15-21. This year’s theme, Everyone Belongs – is the perfect chance to try a wellbeing or fitness activity that celebrates culture and diversity.

Intro to Dragon Boating

Enjoy the waterways and bay paddling in dragon boats. Sessions start with a safety briefing and a warm-up before a 90-minute basic introduction to the sport. Life jackets and paddles provided. March 14, 9.30-11.30am at Talobilla Park Aquatic Precinct, Klingner Rd, Kippa-Ring. Cost: $5. Phone 3205 0555.

Collecting Moreton Bay 

Pine Rivers Heritage Museum wants the community’s help to create a collection that represents the region’s diversity. From theatre tickets and fashion items, to sporting memorabilia and hijabs - if they relate to the Moreton Bay Region, the museum wants to hear about them. Light refreshments provided. March 21, 11am1pm at Pine Rivers Heritage Museum, Old Petrie Town, 901 - 949 Dayboro Rd, Whiteside.

Neighbourhood Day 

on March 28 is a great time to check in with those closest to you – your neighbours.

Darts delights 

Grab a friend to join the fun at a community darts night. The Deception Bay Club hosts Friday night competitions. The club will pair you with friendly professionals. Entry is free. Phone 3205 0555

Can poetry save humanity? 

Dr Marcus Bussey is a futurist, poet and author of The Next Big Thing. Join him for a discussion that explores the power of language and culture. His talk is part of the Moreton Minds series, a partnership between Moreton Bay Region Libraries and the University of the Sunshine Coast. March 20, 1-2.30pm at North Lakes Library. Margaret Fulton The Musical 

A musical biography of Aussie cooking legend Margaret Fulton. Her cookbook encouraged Australians to experiment with more interesting ingredients, straying from the old tradition of meat and three veg. This musical romp is on April 10, 2-3.20pm and 7.30-8.50pm at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre. Tickets: $59 for adults, $55 concession and $50 for children
