Green light for new live music venue

Plans for a new music venue on Bribie Island have been given the go-ahead.

Bribie Island Hotel’s development application for a “purpose-built live music venue” was unanimously supported by Moreton Bay councillors this week.

The extension, joining the existing gaming room, will include a “large entertainment area” stage, bar, VIP and green room, toilets and terrace.

When completed it will add another 490sqm of floor area to the hotel, which is on Sylvan Beach Esp, Bellara and owned by Australia Venue Company.

The extension will replace the existing storage area and 22 car parking spaces will be lost. However, the hotel's 219 remaining spaces is well above the requirement.

The report to councillors said concerns were raised by members of the public over “noise, anti-social behaviour and intoxicated patron behaviour, parking, traffic and devaluation of existing properties”.

Cr Brooke Savige (Div 1) told the MBRC meeting the site has been used for a “large number of concerts” in recent years by closing the bistro and using that area. Concerts had been  well attended, she said.

“Moving the concert space into this new area will allow them (Bribie Island Hotel) keep the bistro open as well as provide entertainment options.” Cr Savige said.

There was also sufficient on-street parking, if required, for evening concerts.

The live concert extension comes 18 months after Bribie Island Hotel completed $2.2 million of renovation work.

It included a refreshed bistro, family-friendly beer garden with large lawn games and renovated gaming room and new children’s play area.
