Inspiring visit by world star

Two-time world javelin champion Kelsey-Lee Barber as visited Moreton Bay to help inspire our young athletes ahead of the Brisbane Olympics.

Barber visited Bribie Island and Caboolture Little Athletics Clubs on Friday to pass on tips and advice to the next generation track and field stars.

It was for the Coles Community Round, which offers future champions the chance to rub shoulders with Australia's elite.

“It’s always so rewarding to visit grassroots Little Athletics centres for Coles Community Round,” Barber, a Coles Ambassador, said.

“It was great to see the athletes and volunteers at Bribie District and Caboolture Little Athletics centres get behind the dress ups, having fun and supporting each other.

“As a Coles ambassador and Olympian, I know how important it is to nurture a love of sport from a young age.

“I hope by sharing my athletics journey with them, it has inspired some of these kids to chase their sporting goals.”

The 34-year-old won the 2019 and 2022 world javelin title – becoming the first woman to retain the field event’s world championship.

Barber has also won gold, silver and bronze at the Commonwealth Games and Olympic bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
