It All Started With Worms

Reid's Place, a popular B&B + wedding venue in Scarborough got a bit of an odd start...this is their story.

It All Started With Worms

Then

Where love, romance and celebration meet, it all started with worms.

The land now known as Reid’s Place B&B was once home to an army of earthworms owned by Rob and Beth Reid. Together, the couple set out on a business venture to transform their Scarborough home garden into a business called Earthworm Composting Systems that attracted customers through the beauty of their garden.

However, instead of piquing the interest of avid and passionate gardeners looking to buy earthworms, they had limousines and other weddings cars pull up outside their home with bridal parties stepping out for photos among the lush gardens. People were curious about the venue, a hidden suburban gem in Scarborough on Redcliffe Peninsula. Chuffed at the thought anyone would think it nice enough for wedding photos, the couple were still adamant on making a name for their earthworm business.

That was, until, in 1995, and engaged couple knocked on their front door begging Rob and Beth allow them to host their wedding ceremony in the gardens.

Now

Regardless of peoples predetermined thoughts and expectations, after inspecting Reid’s Place for their special occasion, they are impressed and reassured that they’ve picked the best spot. They feel like they have found their secret place, that of unexpected difference and beauty in the garden venue.

So, if it wasn’t for those earthworms all those years ago who certainly played their part in creating colourful and fragrant gardens, Reid’s Place wouldn’t be a pretty, boutique garden wedding and high tea venue and relaxing B&B experience, let alone an award-winning one!
