Keen golfers have tee-rific time at charity fundraiser

There were plenty of big swings and some friendly rivalry on the green as players came together to help raise money for a Moreton Bay charity that makes documentaries featuring Australian war veterans.
A total of 16 teams took part in the Ambrose-style event at the Redcliffe Golf Club on August 2, which was hosted by This Story Australia CEO and founders Jeff Hughes and Rachel Dutton.
“This was our fourth annual golf day, and was by far the best one yet,” Jeff said.
“We had around 10 teams who have played and supported the day before, as well as some new teams and new sponsors.
“Everyone had a really good time, especially up at the half-way house, which is where we had Banger and Blakey playing music, handing out spot prizes, and doing their podcast, which is called Just Havin A Crack – their commentary was very amusing.
“Unfortunately, nobody won the car supplied by Motorama for the hole in one competition, but we did have two people who came very close, within inches.”
Having now moved the charity’s office from North Lakes to Redcliffe, Jeff and Rachel plan to hold the fundraiser at the course again next year.
“The Redcliffe Golf Club is a great course to play on,” Jeff said.
“We have held the golf day at different courses in the past, but now we feel the time is right to stick to the Redcliffe Golf Course and build more community support and local connections here.
“We are extremely grateful for all the support This Story Australia has received from our sponsors.”
Some of the businesses who either returned as sponsors or were new supporters of This Story Australia included their major sponsor The Star, Archer Brewing, Motorama at Moorooka, FleetCrew, Hiya Health, Aweso Insurance, Tangalooma Island Resort, Blue Moon Property, Village Roadshow Theme Parks, Drummond Golf, The Belvedere Hotel, and Mortgage Choice.
People who attended the day will be able to see all the photos and a video on the This Story Australia website.

How the money helps
All money raised from the fundraiser will allow This Story Australia to continue creating documentaries that are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Australia’s military history.
Since establishing the not-for-profit organisation in January 2020, This Story Australia has captured the stories of nearly 90 war veterans spanning a wide range of wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions including WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Somalia, Timor, and Afghanistan.
“The golf day is our major fundraising event for the year, and the money raised from that one day will go a long way in creating more documentaries over the coming year,” Jeff says.
“Now that we have moved premises which is in the heart of Redcliffe, we hope to interview more local veterans and preserve their stories.
“As a charity founded in Moreton Bay, we are eager to reach out and preserve the stories of more of our local veterans. Moreton Bay resident veterans make up only 10 percent of the veterans we have interviewed across Australia.”
All of This Story’s personal stories, including their International Film Festival winning documentaries can be viewed on the This Story Australia website, and many can be accessed via the State Library of Queensland as well.
