Leena to add some jazz and pizazz to festival
Published 5:00am 13 July 2024
Seasoned vocalist Leena Salim will perform some of her favourite jazz and Motown hits when she takes to the stage with her jazz duo at this year’s Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival.
Renowned as one of Moreton Bay’s finest jazz singers, Leena will delight the crowd with her soulful harmonies when the festival returns to the Woody Point foreshore from August 23-25.
She joins a stellar line-up of more than 40 Queensland singers, musicians and DJs who will perform across multiple stages throughout the three-day extravaganza.
Speaking to Moreton Daily, Leena says she loves how the festival brings foodies and musos together.
“What I love most about performing at this festival is the successful merging of so many elements,” Leena says.
“It’s held outside at a beautiful location by the water, it has different genres of live music, plenty of food offerings, and attracts people from all walks of life.
“Having a wide range of music across the three days is great because it appeals to people’s senses and gets them in a festive mood.
“I personally know people who fly in from Airlie Beach to be at the festival every year, and I have also met many visitors who have travelled from interstate.
“I also get a bit of a high walking around the festival and soaking up the vibe when I am not on stage.”
Leena will perform at The Cellar Door from 6pm-7.15pm on Saturday and 12pm-1.15pm on Sunday.
“This year we will keep a balance to the setlist with popular jazz standards, a few from the Motown era, some soul genres, plus swinging pop jazzy tunes,” Leena says.
“We’re so grateful to attract folks that are into jazz, and it’s nice to see them sitting right up the front during our first set and then waiting for our second set.
“Last year, we had folks who told us they came specifically to see us because they heard us the year before, which was nice.
“I always take great pride in playing at these kinds of events because it is my home turf."
In addition to seeing her regular fans, Leena is also hoping to see some new faces in the crowd.
“If you haven’t been before, this will be a new experience for you,” Leena says.
“Come and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of this culinary extravaganza, waterfront views and delightful live music.”
