The Linkfield Road overpass at Bald Hills will fully re-open to traffic next week as final repairs kick-off this weekend. It follows weeks of disruption after a truck struck it last month.

But there will be one more closure needed before it reopens.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey says the final repairs on the bridge are needed, so it can re-open to heavy vehicles.

"The impact pushed through the overpass and pierced the top of the deck,” Mr Bailey says.

“We undertook a staged response to re-open the bridge to light traffic in the weeks after the incident, ensuring as minimal impact to the network as possible.”

State Member for Aspley Bart Mellish says crews have done a great job in keeping the bridge safe, ahead of a major upgrade to the overpass next year.

“The $125 million Linkfield Rd overpass upgrade is on track for construction to begin in 2023,” Mr Mellish says.

“Detailed design on this huge project will begin this year.”

Mr Bailey says the important construction works scheduled for this weekend will allow the overpass to revert to normal operation and ensure the bridge can safely carry heavy vehicles again.

Prepare for bridge closure, delays

"Unfortunately, due to the specific nature of the works, night work will start from 7pm Sunday (27 March) and (the bridge will be closed until it is) fully operational in time for peak-hour traffic on Wednesday (30 March),” he said.

"Detours will be in place during the work to ensure motorists can reach their destination.

"I would like to thank road users and the local community for their patience while these repairs are being undertaken.”

Traffic control and signs will be in place on Linkfield Rd and Gympie Arterial Rd during the closure and motorists are reminded to allow extra time when planning their journey.
