Make-up artist comes to bride’s rescue

A North Lakes make-up artist has saved the day for a bride left stranded when her hair and make-up artist failed to show on her big day.

Natalie Holland had booked her beauty package almost a year in advance, but sister Samantha Van Strien says the bridal party began to panic when the artists hadn’t arrived half an hour after the appointed time.

“Tensions were already so high as we had been constantly watching the press conference and monitoring the COVID-19 cases hoping this wedding would be able to take place,” Samantha says.

A call to the make-up artist revealed her car had broken down and she was trying to get someone to replace her and she also couldn’t reach the hair stylist.

With her sister inconsolable, Samantha turned to the North Lakes Community Facebook page for help.

“I had been a member of the North Lakes Community page for many years and had known the page had been helpful in times of need, but I wasn’t sure how successful we would be, considering we needed a makeup artist right there and then,” she says.

“We had many suggestions and a few people offering assistance, but no one could come out to us immediately.”

Hitting the road

Meanwhile, Primal Beauty owner Jodi Jeyes returned home from an hour-long session at the gym to find her phone lit up with alerts.

“My sister had tagged me in the posts, and then my husband said I should call and see if I could help because I didn’t have appointments booked until later in the day,” Jodi says.

With time of the essence and five people needing hair and make-up miracles, Jodi partially changed out of her gym gear and headed straight to Murrumba Downs.

“At that stage I didn’t know how I was going to get five lots of make-up and hair done in three-and-a-half hours,” Jodi says.

“They were definitely very flustered when I got there.”

Fortunately, a hairdresser also saw the post, so Jodi was able to focus on make-up for Natalie, her three bridesmaids and her mum and the group was ready in time for the wedding.

“I don’t know what would have happened if we didn’t have Jodi, but I am almost certain we wouldn’t have had a wedding,” Samantha says.
