Max Cunningham, from North Lakes, is Queensland’s 14 Years Age Champion after a stunning performance at the State Championships last week.

The former Grace Swimming Club member won five gold medals, two bronze, was named swimmer of the sessions and clocked a state record.

Now based at Churchie on a scholarship, Cunningham won his age group’s 100m butterfly in 56.38 seconds – the fourth fastest time ever recorded.

He followed that with the 50m and 100m freestyle gold – the latter in a state record time 52.96 seconds.\

Cunningham also added the 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle gold medals to his haul at Brisbane Aquatic Centre

Bronze medals in the 200m freestyle and Club Mixed freestyle relay took his tally to seven.

Former Burpengary swimmer Kayley McKeown, who was born in Redcliffe and grew up in Caboolture, was named swimmer of the meet.

She broke the Australian All Comers record in the 50m backstroke with 26.98 seconds, Queensland All Comers record of 57.79 seconds in the 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley record of 2 minutes 7.54 seconds.
