New lighting upgrades for the Redcliffe Peninsula Harness Racing and Sporting Club are officially set to commence this month.

The $6 million project is expected to run over 11 months and is being supported through the Miles Government’s Racing Infrastructure Fund.

The upgrades will ensure the club can offer the highest quality broadcast for night racing, with new LED lighting and electrical infrastructure being installed.

Redcliffe Peninsula Harness Racing and Sporting Club President Bernie Ring says the project is vital.

“This is a vital project for the future of the Triangle, with both participant and animal welfare is at its forefront,” he says.

“Racing under lights is synonymous with Redcliffe, and this upgrade ensures that spectators on-course and at home won’t miss a second of the action.

“We’d like to thank both Racing Queensland and the Miles Government for their support and delivery of this project.”

Minister for Racing Grace Grace says the upgrades will help the club continue to drive economic growth to the racing industry.

“Redcliffe is one of the state’s most valuable harness training and racing venues, conducting more than 40 percent of the industry’s 310 race meetings annually, with around 300 horses trialling or in training at the venue every week,” she says.

“This project is expected to support 20 new jobs throughout construction, contributing to an industry which already delivers more than $2.2 billion in economic contribution to Queensland each year.”
