The new principal of Caboolture’s St Paul’s Lutheran Primary School believes all students can learn to a high level in the right environment.

Katrina Valencia joined St Paul’s this year after Anton Prinsloo left to take up a position at Toowoomba’s Concordia Lutheran College and says educators are heroes living among us.

A mum to three teenagers, Katrina publishes her own series, “Tech T@alk... With Mrs V”, to help normalise what parents and their children are experiencing in the ever-changing digital world.

She says it’s important to understand and engage in the digital world safely and effectively and through the blog shares information with parents about raising children in the digital age, cyberbullying, technology and mental health and other topics relevant to keeping young people safe online.

Nurturing potential

Katrina brings more than 18 years of experience in Lutheran education - the past 12 in leadership positions across two schools.

Her journey through Lutheran education began at Nalkari Lutheran Kindergarten in Toowoomba, and she completed her Prep to Year 12 schooling at Concordia Lutheran College.

She says dressing up, indulging in the occasional computer game and following her newfound passion for dance help her to be able to ‘talk the talk’ with the young people in her care.

“I want students to leave St Pauls’ with a deep sense that they are uniquely and wonderfully made, worthy of so much, are loved so deeply and can, and will change the world in amazing ways,” Katrina says.
