One shot on 'pizza hole' could hit jackpot

Excitement is building at Redcliffe Golf Club – especially around the 11th green.

That’s because, as of Monday this week, a player could walk away from the challenging par three hole with $10,000 in cash.

Shields St Eats Café, at 33 Prince Edward Pde, Redcliffe, has put up the cash prize for a hole-in-one at the 11th hole.

Driving for cash

It has to be achieved by a player with a GA (Golf Australia) handicap during Redcliffe’s Tuesday and Thursday Ladies or Wednesday and Saturday club competitions.

“The cash prize is currently at $10,000,” Shield St Eats General Manager Kate Lipanovic said. “We started with a cash prize of $500 and add $100 each week.

“We have put a limit of $10,000 on it until someone knocks it off and once someone wins the jackpot it reverts back to $500 and jackpots weekly.

The hole-in-one prize went up again on Monday to its $10,000 maximum.

“Perhaps it’s unique as far as the dollar value and also the jackpots. I have not heard of any other club doing something similar.

“It does generate a bit of interest at the golf club and I know they have a lot of golfers come to Redcliffe to try to win it.”

“People call it the pizza hole and it’s been excellent for business.”

Well protected

The 11th hole at Redcliffe Golf Club requires a mid-iron and from the tee is 154m for men and 151m for women.

The green is well protected with sand and grass bunkers.
