A record $13.6 million has been secured from the South-East Queensland Community Stimulus Program for 13 projects in the Moreton Bay region.
Mayor Peter Flannery said it was an “outstanding result” to get $4.3 million from the SEQCSP competitive funding round.
In Dakabin, the Alma Rd Bend upgrade gets $3 million, of the $4.5 million cost, for what Cr Yvonne Barlow (Div 7) said is a “game-changer, improving safety and accessibility”.
Cr Karl Winchester (Div 5) believes it is a “fantastic win for Clontarf” to get $1.3 million, of a $1.8 million total, for the Hornibrook Esplanade Cycleway Stage 2a.
In addition to the competitive projects, City of Moreton Bay also secured $9.3 million in allocative funding:
- Akers Road Park Construction, Lawnton: $3.1 million
- Albany Creek Library Courtyard Upgrade: $600,000
- Bongaree Caravan Park Water Reticulation Upgrade: $300,000
- Bribie Island Library Courtyard Upgrade: $675,000

- Leis Park Amenities Construction, Lawnton: $550,000
- Margate Beach Park Amenities Upgrade: $650,000

Minister for Local Government and Water, Ann Leahy said: “These are essential infrastructure upgrades Moreton Bay communities will benefit from daily.”
The Minister added “50 per cent of the funding was already released for work to commence”.
Cr Brooke Savige (Div 1) said funding would ensure Bongaree Caravan Park “remains a high-quality facility, supporting tourism” and create a “modern, inviting outdoor space” at Bribie library.
Deputy Mayor Jodie Shipway (Div 4) said Capestone Lake Pedestrian Ramp was a “vital addition to infrastructure … enhancing safety and accessibility”.
Cr Winchester added: “The upgrades to Langdon Park lighting, Margate Beach Park amenities, and new Redcliffe Wayfinding Signage are all about enhancing liveability.”
Funding for Akers Road Park, Lawnton Aquatic Centre upgrades and replacing amenities at Leis Park was welcomed by Cr Jim Moloney (Div 8) to “meet needs of all residents”.
And Cr Cath Tonks (Div 9) said the courtyard upgrade for Albany Creek Library will “transform the space into a welcoming area”.
