The Lakes Cricket Club will be calling Burpengary Sports Complex home for at least the next five years.

Following the merger of The Lakes CC and Burpengary Cricket Association, City of Moreton Bay has granted the club a lease at Burpengary Sports Complex.

The lease includes exclusive use of a storage shed and a shared use of the clubhouse and sports fields.

Mayor Peter Flannery said having the peppercorn lease of $1 per annum takes the pressure off the club so they can focus on what matters.

“With over 550 patrons, it’s important for the club to have a safe enjoyable environment where young people can develop their cricketing abilities,” the Mayor said.

“This lease really helps the club hit it out of the park.

“Council is actively investing in grassroots sport, not just by
providing space but by ensuring clubs have the stability to plan
long-term.”

Councillor Mark Booth (Div 2) said the new lease for The Lakes Cricket Club will give members greater opportunities.

“The new lease for The Lakes Cricket Club will ensure they have access to quality facilities and the ability to continue building a strong community around the sport,” he said.

“Supporting our local sports clubs is vital for encouraging participation and fostering the next generation of cricketers in our City.”

The Lakes President Daniel Moyle said the club welcomes confirmation of a new five-year lease to continue delivering high-quality cricket programs.

“Having exclusive use of the storage shed and shared access to the clubhouse and sports fields gives our members the certainty they need to plan for the future,” he said.

“We are grateful to Council for their ongoing support and look forward to expanding opportunities for all our players.”
