Strathpine-based Platypus Dentist has announced it will not increase treatment fees through to June 2027, despite rising operational costs linked to higher wages for dental support staff.
The decision follows recent wage increases under the Health Professionals and Support Services (HPSS) Award, which will lift pay for dental assistants and support workers across the profession.
Director Dr Yi (Terry) Pu said the practice fully supported fair pay for dental staff and had made a deliberate decision to protect affordability for patients.
“We always try to keep our fees as low as we can,” Dr Terry said. “We don’t want money to be the reason people avoid getting the care they need.”
Under the commitment, no treatment fees will increase in 2026 or through to June 2027, with Dr Terry choosing to absorb the additional costs personally rather than pass them on to patients.
Dr Terry said putting people first had always guided how the practice operates.
“At the end of the day, it’s about looking after people properly. That's the patients and our team.”
Platypus Dental said the decision was aimed at protecting accessibility and equity of care for the local community, while continuing to invest in staff wellbeing and professional growth.
