Ready to roll on Murrumba Downs road upgrades

A $5.6 million overhaul of the intersection at Brays Road and McClintock Drive in Murrumba Downs start in coming weeks, with Moreton Bay Regional Council awarding the construction contract today.

Mayor Peter Flannery says it was another example of Council delivering on its promise to support jobs and help keep the Moreton Bay Regional economy on track at this difficult time.

“I’m thrilled to see major contracts like this getting out the door and awarded just a few months after we handed down the 2020-21 Budget,” Mayor Flannery says.

“This fast-tracking means we’ll have road crews out on the tools in early September. I’ve said I want Council to provide locals with some certainty through these uncertain times and that’s exactly what we’re doing.

“(This means) stimulating the economy, supporting jobs, and providing locals with the certainty that our infrastructure will keep pace with population growth.

“When the Brays Road and McClintock Drive intersection upgrade is completed locals will enjoy better traffic flow, less congestion, more public transport facilities, and improved safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.”

What the upgrade includes

• Road widening and added turning lanes
• Road resurfacing
• More public transport infrastructure
• New traffic signals at the intersection of Brays Road and McClintock Drive, Moreton St and Normanby Rd
• A new roundabout at the intersection of Brays Rd and Twin Lakes Drive
• New signalised pedestrian crossings
• Upgrades to surrounding pathways

How will the work benefit the community

Division 7 Councillor and Deputy Mayor Denise Sims says the works are designed to meet the community’s future transport needs for years to come.

“I want to thank residents for the feedback they provided at the public consultations held at Living Faith Lutheran Primary School,” she says.

“Your feedback informed outcomes like the traffic lights that will go in at Normanby Rd and Moreton St, as well a roundabout at Twin Lakes Drive.

To try to minimise the impacts on everyday road users work has been scheduled at night, where possible, particularly important for parents accessing the primary school.

“As Griffin’s population continues to grow and bottlenecking already occurring around this area, I know these works can’t start soon enough,” Cr Sims says.

“If you want to stay up to date on this important local project, stay tuned to the project notices Council issues and our online updates. We’ll also put up electronic message boards in the area to keep you informed.”
