Redcliffe’s Aurora Jansma has been named “most outstanding” junior swimmer at the 21-nation Asian Open (AOSI) Global Aquatics Championships in Bangkok.

The nine-year-old Redcliffe Swimming Club member won seven medals – four gold, two silver, one bronze - in seven events over four days (January 29-February 1)

Being the biggest medal haul among junior women, Aurora was crowned Most Outstanding International Athlete – Junior Award (under 13 years).

The Southern Cross Catholic College student’s performance, while representing Australia, also earned the 10 Years Age Champion Award.

Aurora dominated her finals in the 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and notably the 200m butterfly becoming the new AOSI Age Champion Record holder.

In a stunning display, she smashed the previous AOSI championship record by a massive 16.65 seconds!

That was against nations including Thailand, Philippines, India, Russia, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and Japan, which send more than 1400 swimmers to the event.

It comes exactly 12 months after Aurora won one gold, five silver and one bronze medal at the 18-nation Global Aquatics Asian International Championships.

Competing as a nine-year-old, Aurora also brought home the Global Aquatics Asian International Age Champion trophy.
Moreton Daily has been following Aurora’s journey, including her seven-medal performance at last year’s Asian championships.
