The Hutchinson Builders Redcliffe Pro-Am, being held this Thursday and Friday (July 15-16), will have the greatest field ever seen at Redcliffe Golf Club.
All will be chasing a share of $60,000 – the biggest prize fund on the national Adidas PGA Pro-Am Series this year.
“It’s a huge entry list,” said Redcliffe’s Director of Golf Chris Adnams, “if it was the Queensland Open or NSW Open, the field would be exactly the same.
“It is the best field ever assembled at this club, chasing the best prize purse.”
Leading lights
It includes Jordan Zunic, winner of the 2015 BMW New Zealand Open and runner-up in the 2017 Australian PGA Championship and 2018 Izuzu Queensland Open.
Anthony Quayle, a European Tour player, who was runner-up in the 2018 Fiji International and won the 2020 Queensland Open.
Tim Hart who has won nine tournaments on the Mining Towns Tour this season and Jarrod Stirling, a Redcliffe Golf Club member, who was joint winner of the pro-am in 2019.
Michael Sim, a former PGA Tour member, played the final round of the 2009 US Open with Tiger Woods and finished 18th. At one time Sim was in the world’s top 50.
Local hope
Doug Klein, who works in the Redcliffe pro shop, will be looking to continue his fine form after winning the HAVAL Tin Can Pro-Am last Tuesday with a 10 under par 62.
The 23-year-old was also fourth in last month’s Rockhampton Invitational, won the Virginia Pro-Am in April and in 2017 lifted the Queensland Amateur title.
“He’s the home-town hope,” said Adnams, “all the members will be cheering for Doug.”
Caboolture Golf Club pro Rick Coleman, who used to work at Redcliffe, is also in the field.
Free entry
The Hutchinson Builders Redcliffe Pro-Am is on tomorrow and Friday (July 15-16) over two rounds of stroke play on the par 71 course. Play starts at 10am both days.
The top four then go into a four-hole match play shootout for $5000. The rest have a nearest the pin shootout for $1000.
Entry is free for spectators, car pooling is advised as parking at and close to the course is limited.
Everyone must check in using the QR code and follow the club’s COVID regulations.
