RSPCA's sweetest fundraiser returns
Published 12:00pm 2 September 2024
Moreton Bay locals are being encouraged to pre-heat their ovens and get baking this month to help raise money for the RSPCA’s annual Cupcake Day fundraiser.
Held every September, Cupcake Day events can be held at home, school or work, giving you a purrfect reason to get out your cooking utensils, gather your favourite crew, and bake to fight animal cruelty.
Your Cupcake Day can be held any time in September, so pick a day that suits you!
RSPCA spokesperson Emma Lagoon says every donation helps.
"We all know someone who loves to bake, so nominate them to create and you can donate,” Emma says.
“It's heartwarming to see passionate animal lovers getting creative and supporting hundreds of animals in our care today through fundraising.”
How to get involved
There are five easy steps to follow to get involved this Cupcake Day:
- Sign up – It is fun, rewarding and oh so delicious
- Plan – Use the host tools to help you plan your day
- Promote – Spread the word about your amazing paw-ty!
- Prepare – time to shop for those ingredients to bake up a storm
- Party – It is time to raise some dough for a good cause!
For more information and to register an event, visit the RSPCA Cupcake Day website.
Bake a meaningful difference
Last year, more than 87,000 animals turned to the RSPCA for help, with 42,949 of those in Queensland.
Money raised from Cupcake Day will go towards helping animals like Bruno (pictured above), who was one of 10 puppies dumped at a property in Moreton Bay.
Sadly, two puppies did not survive from health concerns that were untreated.
Thankfully, eight puppies survived and were nurtured by devoted RSPCA staff and volunteers over several weeks prior to their adoption.
They are now living their best lives in their ‘furever’ homes thanks to the generosity of Cupcake Day fundraisers in the community.
Help our local RSPCA
The team and volunteers from RSPCA Dakabin will also be taking part in Cupcake Day and sprinkling some kindness into the animal world by hosting a mini market on September 14.
The day will feature lots of delicious baked goodies for sales, as well as a second-hand market, raffles, and more.
All the fun will be held from 10am-2pm (or until sold out), so it’s best to get there early.
RSPCA Dakabin is located on Goodwin Rd, Dakabin.
How your money helps
If you can’t make it down on the day, online donations are also accepted and can be made here.
A donation of $36 can provide a warm bed, love and care for one day in a shelter.
A donation of $56 can provide antibiotics for an animal recovering from surgery.
A donation of $91 can transport multiple animals to other shelters to increase their hopes of being adopted.
A donation of $118 can desex a male kitten so he can go up for adoption and help stop our stray problem.
