Schools join Saturday vaccination blitz
Words by Nick Crockford

Eight schools in the Moreton Bay Region will be part of a Super Saturday Vaccination Blitz tomorrow.

In total 116 schools across South East Queensland will host vaccination centres from 9am to 2pm for walk-ins.

The schools are: Albany Creek State High School, Bray Park State High School, Burpengary State Secondary College, Clontarf Beach State High School, Morayfield State High School, Pine Rivers State High School, Redcliffe State High School, Tullawong State High School, Woodford State High School.

Vaccination figures

It is part of the State’s drive to increase vaccination figures which currently stand at 73.66 per cent with one dose and 58.72 per cent two doses.

In comes as Queensland had no community transmission cases in the last 24 hours, but five overseas cases were found in hotel quarantine.

The Gold Coast man in his 30s, who was rushed to hospital this week, is described as being “very ill in hospital” by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

High-flow oxygen

Chief Health Officer Dr Jennette Young said the man was receiving “high-flow oxygen” and may need to go into intensive care.

Dr Young used today’s press briefing to tell the 675,000 people in the South-East corner who have not been vaccinated they are “at risk”.

“Your time is running out,” Dr Young said, “today is the day to get vaccinated.”

Truck driver

A truck driver, who had one dose of vaccine, has tested positive in Victoria on Wednesday is also causing concern as he was in Queensland on Monday and Tuesday this week.

There were 6330 COVID tests carried out in Queensland in the last 24 hours and 15,681 vaccines administered.

Vaccinations by GPs and at pharmacies have now topped 50,000, said the Premier.
