Sharn Freier - the Redcliffe-born, Moreton Bay-raised, Australian Matildas international striker - has flown back to Brisbane.
The 24-year-old has rejoined Brisbane Roar for the 2025-26 Ninja A-League season on loan from Bundesliga giant VfL Wolfsburg.
Freier joined Roar in 2020-21 and had a breakout 23/24 campaign at left wing, starting all 22 games, scoring twice and having five assists.
It led to her first call-up for the Matildas and Freier has since won nine international caps, including playing at the Paris 2024 Olympics and scored twice.
“I'm really happy to be back and pulling on the Brisbane Roar shirt again,” the former Pine Rivers State High School student said.
"Representing a club and fanbase who have always been there for me means so much and I can't wait get back to playing for them this season."
Roar Head Coach Alex Smith said: “We’re beyond thrilled to have Sharn back, she’s a massive addition to our squad.
“Her ability to take players on and create is exciting and resonates with our fanbase. She is the perfect fit for our playing style, and I can't wait to work with her again.”
Freier started at Pine Rivers United with twin sister Laini, who is 24 minutes older, before joining Moreton Bay United (now Moreton City Excelsior).
There she won the NPL Under 15 title in 2016, joined The Gap and then Brisbane Roar, but in 2021 returned to Moreton Bay United as a senior.
Freier made 11 appearances in the 2024/25 season, scoring twice and bagging four assists before an ankle injury ended her campaign.
Laini Freier, who made her Matildas’ debut this year, recently announced her retirement from professional football.
Sher got married this year and said the time is right to “move on from this chapter” having followed the same career path as Sharn in Australia.
