Teddies ’n’ Sweets finds a new home

Iconic Redcliffe English tearoom Teddies ’n’ Sweets has moved from its home of more than 14 years to nearby Violet St.

Owner Anna Connor says the new premises are open in the lead-up to Christmas so people can stock up on all their traditional favourites, but fans of their famed high teas will have to wait until a new kitchen is completed in the New Year.

“People can still come in and pick up their pork pies and Christmas sweets – or haggis for Hogmanay,” Anna says.

“We’ve sold more than 200 pies already – people are coming in all day every day.”

Anna says while she’s sad to leave Cominos Arcade behind after so long, she’s looking forward to kitting out her new venue at 4 Violet St, just off Sutton St, which has plenty of parking nearby.

“It will be lovely and bright, with loads of red, white and blue and Union Jacks, but it will still have that warmth that people love.”

Freddie returns

It will also have Anna’s tribute to Freddie Mercury, with all the paraphernalia she’s collected to honour the Queen frontman.

In the meantime, the famed teddies are already settling in, with her favourite giant teddy taking pride of place in the front window.

Rows of lolly jars with traditional English sweets, as well as Galaxy chocolate and Fry’s chocolate creams and other treats, have also been installed.

High tea will return

Anna says she’s looking forward to serving long-standing regulars and newcomers her delightful high teas.

“We take time to make it special – people usually come for a special occasion and we want them to have something to remember.”

With little touches such as bone china, assorted finger sandwiches, scones, mini quiches and delicious cakes, Anna says customers usually return year after year.

“It will be different in a new setting, but it will be just as special – we’ll help them make new memories,” she promises.

“Teddies ’n’ Sweets was not the four walls, it was us.”
