After an outstanding display at the national championships, Redcliffe Pink Snapdragons are inviting newcomers to try dragon boating.
Survivors and supporters of those touched by breast cancer can pick up a paddle at a special come-and-try morning on Saturday June 13.
It will be at the same Talobilla Park clubhouse where Snappies prepared to take on the best crews in the country at the Auschamps last month.
Competing in the breast cancer survivor category, Snappies were fourth in the 200m event, after taking second in their heat and winning the repechage in a crew-best time.
The Kippa-Ring club was also sixth in Australia over 500m, battling through heats and repechage in challenging conditions.
For a club that has rebuilt after years in caretaker mode, the results were remarkable and a testament to the resilience, determination, and spirit of the team.
Snappies paid tribute to coach Lisa for her “dedication, training and encouragement” and Del, a sweep for more than 20 years and a key figure in resurrecting the club.
“Being a Snappie is about so much more than racing. It’s about community, gratitude, family, resilience and celebrating people who make this team what it is,” a spokesperson said.
Redcliffe Pink Snapdragons advocate for breast cancer awareness, survivorship, inclusion, and active recovery through sport and connection.
The club takes part in community events, fundraising activities, awareness campaigns and come and try sessions where others can meet the team and experience dragon boating.
Registrations are open for the come and try day at Snappies HQ, Talobilla Park, Kippa-Ring on June 13, at 9am. Equipment provided, wear workout gear, water shoes and bring a water bottle.
