Primary students at five Moreton Bay schools have been given a lesson about the importance of saving water - even in wet weather.

The message was delivered to pupils at Bribie Island, Burpengary, Kallangur and Banksia Beach State Schools, as well as Southern Cross Catholic College.

Walter Smart and Friends, an interactive stage show, was delivered by Unitywater’ education program with The Water Conservancy and Gibber Education.

“Unitywater is here to support healthy and thriving communities beyond safe and reliable delivery of water and wastewater services to homes and businesses,” Executive Manager Strategic Engagement Joshua Zugajev said.

“As we’re locals too, we understand first-hand the importance of promoting water efficiency in a region where the weather can be unpredictable.

“Even in periods where we receive a lot of rain, if it doesn’t fall into the catchments that connect to our region’s dams, this can impact water supply.

“We know kids are the best advocates and Walter Smart and friends help educate them in an engaging way as they soak up the information and share it at home.”

Gibber Educational Director Vicky Blackburn said Walter Smart and Friends had professional performers who use theatre to achieve positive change in attitude and behaviour.

“Through innovative drama-based training, we’re happy to help spread Unitywater’s message of using water efficiently – even when it’s raining outside!” Ms Blackburn said.
