Britain may have Banksy …. But Redcliffe is laying claim to its own elusive artist - Rocksy.
Residents around Redcliffe have been waking to discover a growing collection of mysterious stone sculptures appearing along the quiet coastal pathway.
The anonymous, mystery artist, who has been nicknamed “Rocksy from Redcliffe,” has drawn comparisons to the mysterious UK street artist Banksy.
Unlike graffiti artists who spray paint onto city walls, Rocksy’s medium is carefully balanced stones, driftwood and natural coastal materials, all sourced from nearby.
These are then used to arrange striking temporary sculptures.
Works often appear overnight or in the early hours of the morning, with few people ever seeing the creator.
Early walkers and joggers have been seen stopping to view the new creations at sunrise, before tides, wind or curious visitors eventually reclaim them.
The sculptures range from delicate stone towers of birds, balancing against the sea breeze, to larger artistic arrangements reflecting the natural beauty of Moreton Bay.
Whether Rocksy steps forward or remains anonymous, the sculptor has already succeeded in bringing a sense of wonder to the peninsula, one carefully balanced stone at a time.
